2009 National Walk for Values in Melbourne

On Saturday, 28 March 2009, National Walks for Values were conducted in Capital Cities right across the Nation. Walkers carried banners, placards, balloons, brochures and handouts in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide and on Sunday 29 March 2009, the National Walk for Values took place in Perth. In the crisp early morning air of Melbourne's Queen Victorial Memorial Gardens, over 450 people assembled at the Janet Lady Clarke Memorial to participate in the third National Walk for Values in the City of Melbourne.

The Walk was launched by Telmo Languillier, MP, State Member Derrimut. His parliamentary career has spanned the positions of Parliamentary Secretary, Community Services December 2002 to December 2006; Parliamentary Secretary, Premier (Multicultural Affairs) from December 2006 - August 2007; and currently, Tel Parliamentary Secretary, Human Services from August 2007.

In his address to the National Walk for Values, Telmo Languillier spoke about the central role values play in human life, and how the most important values of Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence are essential to the forward progress of life in Victoria, equality for all, and maintaining adequate standards of living in Victoria.
After the completion of Telmo Languillier's talk, at 11.00AM sharp, the Guest of Honour cut the ribbon to launch the Melbourne National Walk for Values.

Our Guest of Honour, Telmo Langullier MP, Member for Derrimut, then led the Walk from the start, along St Kilda Road to the Arts Centre.

The Melbourne Walk, proceeded along the beautiful tree-lined St Kilda Road, past the Arts Centre, where many of the Walk participants were handing out brochures and balloons to tourists at the Southbank and Arts Centre precinct.

The 2009 Melbourne National Walk for Values proceeded along St Kilda Road towards Princes Bridge. A fast walk, with many bystanders taking photographs and receiving brochures of the walk. Two members of the walk, dressed as Hearts, hugged bystanders as the Walk proceeded towards the city.

Across Princes Bridge, the National Walk for Values streamed towards the City of Melbourne, attracting attention as a colourful walk.

The Walk wended its way through the main thoroughfare of Melbourne, Swanston Street.
